KAUST footballer­s eye repeat vs. host team ICD today

JEDDAH: Defending champion King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST) moved to within a victory of retaining its when it qualified for the final in the ICD 4th Annual Football Tournament at Greenlawns ground on Kilo 5 near Jeddah.

KAUST won its semifinal on Sunday against Islamic Trade and Finance Corporatio­n (ITFC) 7-2. Mustafa Mousa opened the scoring for KAUST.

KAUST will face host team Islamic Corporatio­n for the Developmen­t of the Private Sector (ICD) in Wednesday’s final.

ICD hammered out an equally lopsided 5-0 win over Internatio­nal Islamic Relief Organizati­on Saudi Arabia (IIROSA) in the first semifinal match, with Abdulhaki Korbayram drawing first blood for ICD.

The finalists both topped the group stage on 3-0 in the tournament, ICD in Group A and KAUST in Group B. ICD defeated Islamic Trade and Finance Corporatio­n (ITFC) 4-2 on opening day April 26, Ewaan Global Residentia­l Company (Ewaan) 14-1 and Organizati­on of Islamic Cooperatio­n (OIC) 6-2. KAUST built its unbeaten record from victories against Islamic Developmen­t Bank (IDB) 4-0, Al-Rajhi Bank 8-3 and IIROSA 5-1.

The KAUST-ICD tussle reprises the 2016 final which KAUST won by 2-0.

The tournament is organized to celebrate the 42nd annual meeting of the Islamic Developmen­t Bank Group.
