Ibrahim Badawi named new chairman of JCA

JEDDAH: Ibrahim Mohammed Ahmed Badawi, a two-time chairman of the Yanbu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (YCCI), was unanimousl­y nominated and approved as the new chairman of Jeddah Cricket Associatio­n ( JECA) in the recent JCA executive committee meeting.

The JCA top brass that attended the extraordin­ary session to pick the new chairman of the JCA were as follows: Humayoon Farooq, vice chairman; Muhammad Iqbal, CEO; Sameer Nidal Khan, director; A. A. Merchant, torch bearer of JCA and internal auditor; Aijaz Ahmed Khan, president; Hamid Afandi, vice president; Haroon Abdullah Bin Mahfouz, executive general secretary; Syed Ashfaque Hussain and Zaheer Peeran, joint secretary technical.

The JCA president introduced the committee, office bearers and executive committee members to Chairman Badawi.

Badawi was born in Yanbu. He completed his university studies at King Abdulaziz University with a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1987. Badawi recently obtained his master’s degree in total quality management with distinctio­n from the Productivi­ty and Quality Institute of the Arab Academy for Sciences, Technology and Marine Shipping in Alexandria, Egypt.

Throughout his career, Badawi garnered numerous achieve- ments, won membership of several committees and occupied several positions starting with warehouse manager at Madina Operations Program, chairmansh­ip of the Sanad Commercial and Industrial Group, chairman of the board of directors of Sanad Plant for Bitumen Products Co. Ltd. in technical collaborat­ion with Sinopec, China, and deputy general manager at Alhamrani Fuchs Petroleum Co. at Yanbu blending factory. Badawi’s stint at Alhamrani was the last prior to setting up his own business and undertakin­g community service.

Badawi became a member of the YCCI and was its chairman during its seventh and eighth sessions.

Badawi was overjoyed by his nomination as JCA chair, and promised to work with the committee members to enhance its status.

For its part, the JCA welcomed Badawi and promised to cooperate with him as he leads the group in the promotion of cricket in the Kingdom.
