Wainwright hits HR, pitches 6 innings as Cardinals win 2-0

ST. LOUIS: Adam Wainwright hit a two-run homer off Brandon McCarthy and pitched six innings of four-hit ball, leading the St. Louis Cardinals over the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-0 on Thursday for a four-game split.

Wainwright (6-3) struck out six and walked two, pitching out of twoon, one-out jams in the fourth and fifth, and extending his scoreless streak to 16 1/3 innings. Matt Bowman, Trevor Rosenthal and Seung Hwan Oh pitched an inning each to complete a five-hitter. Oh threw a one-hit ninth for his 13th save in 15 chances.

Wainwright followed Paul Dejong’s second-inning single with a drive over the left-field bullpen for his 10th career homer. Wainwright has six hits and seven RBIs this season.

McCarthy (5-2) gave up seven hits in four innings, struck out six and walked one.

In Miami, Zack Greinke allowed one earned run in seven innings to earn his seventh victory as Arizona rallied to end Miami’s four-game winning streak.

Nick Ahmed had three of Arizona’s six hits, including a two-run single in the eighth to put the Diamondbac­ks ahead. They won for the 13th time in the past 17 games.

Greinke (7-3), who moved into a tie for the NL lead in wins, struck out eight and allowed four hits. He also singled and scored the Diamondbac­ks’ first run as he improved to 5-0 in nine games against the Marlins.

Archie Bradley struck out Marcell Ozuna with two on to end the eighth. Fernando Rodney, who blew a save in Wednesday’s extrainnin­g win at Pittsburgh, completed a five-hitter by pitching a perfect ninth for his 14th save.

Jeff Locke allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings in his season debut for Miami, but the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead. With the Marlins ahead 2-1, Kyle Barracloug­h (1-1) walked the first two batters in the eighth. The right-hander has given up 21 walks in 22 1/3 innings this season.

In Baltimore, Wade Miley allowed one run in seven innings and Mark Trumbo hit the first of Baltimore’s four home runs off Eduardo Rodriguez as the Orioles beat Boston.

Chris Davis and Adam Jones went deep for a second straight night and Jonathan Schoop capped the outburst with a three-run drive in the sixth that made it 7-1.

Miley (2-3) gave up five hits and a walk against the team he pitched for in 2015. Seeking his first win since April 14, the lefty did not allow a runner past first base after the second inning.

Rodriguez (4-2) allowed seven runs in 5 2/3 innings, and the four homers tied a career high. The former Orioles farmhand came in with a four-game winning streak and a 1.34 ERA in six starts at Camden Yards.

In Toronto, CC Sabathia won his fourth consecutiv­e start, Aaron Hicks had a career-high six RBIs and Gary Sanchez homered twice to lead New York over Toronto.

Sabathia (6-2) allowed one run and five hits in 6 1/3 innings, struck out seven and walked none. He has won four straight starts for the first time since April and May 2012.

Hicks hit a three-run double in the first, singled in the third, had an RBI double in the seventh and a tworun double in the ninth.

Sanchez homered in consecutiv­e at-bats against Marco Estrada (4-3), a solo drive in the second and a tworun shot in the fourth.
