-

flyadeal, Saudi Arabia’s new low fare airline held its inaugural event in Jeddah on Saturday. In celebration of the Saudi National Day, flyadeal flew its first commercial flight from Jeddah to Riyadh on the morning of the same day. This was followed by a press conference in Riyadh before the aircraft flew back to Jeddah.

The events were hosted by the Chairman of flyadeal and Director General of Saudi Arabian Airlines Corporation, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, and the CEO of flyadeal, Con Korfiatis, with the support of the director general of each airport.

Festivities began with an entertaining flash mob in Jeddah, with the cabin crew leading the way in getting the crowds excited. After the speeches concluded, the attendees also gathered around a ceremonial cake to celebrate the moment.

Both flights had a musician on board who played the Saudi national anthem before takeoff. Special guests on board included industry bloggers and the winners of the airline’s social media campaign “Smile.”

Earlier this week, flyadeal announced that online sales had opened via the official website. With one-way fares starting at SR48 ($13), customers were invited to take advantage of the promotional fares for the first route between Jeddah and Riyadh. The airline said the response was phenomenal as it sold over 10,000 seats within 24 hours.

Al-Jasser said: “We developed flyadeal to serve as Saudi Arabia’s new low fare airline and align with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 to diversify the local economy for the benefit of all. As we celebrate Saudi National Day with flyadeal’s first commercial flights, we mark the beginning of our efforts to serve the growing desire for travel in Saudi Arabia and the region.”

Korfiatis said: “On this special day, flyadeal takes to the skies as the new low fare airline for Saudi Arabia. Our seat sales have been phenomenal in the first few days and we’re very excited about the future. By offering attractive low fares and clear choices that help travelers customize their journey, we will provide options that meet the needs of the budget conscious traveler.”
