Nebras chief: Govt efforts against drugs ‘relentless’

- ARAB NEWS

JEDDAH: The government’s efforts in the “fierce” war on drugs are “relentless,” said Abdulilah bin Mohammed Al-Sharif, secretary-general of the National Committee for Narcotics Control.

“Thank God, the government has made outstanding accomplishments in combating drug dealers,” said Al-Sharif, who is also chairman of the National Committee for Combating Drugs (Nebras).

“The news of drug-smuggling operations thwarted by our security forces and customs is enough evidence of the grave danger targeting the country and its youth.”

Al-Sharif said the General Secretariat of the National Committee for Narcotics Control has launched several initiatives, and partnered with various government agencies and private companies, to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs.

He made these remarks during a keynote speech at the launch of an awareness forum organized by Nebras at Jeddah University, which was attended by Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Abdulfattah Mashat.

A visual presentation about the government’s anti-drug efforts was shown, as was a film about Nebras.

This was followed by a keynote speech by Jeddah University Vice President Adnan Al-Humaidan.

“The government has put so much effort into combatting drugs and fighting drug dealers, and has opened private rehab centers and hospitals to treat addicts,” he said.

Nebras adviser Salah Minshawi gave a lecture about types of drugs and their chemical structures.
