Pep pleased, Mourinho morose

LONDON: Pep Guardiola has told Manchester City that records mean nothing unless you back them up with trophies and titles.

United suffering a shock 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield.

Aguero, Nicolas Otamendi and Leroy Sane gifted the hosts the three points at the Etihad Stadium and gave City their 11th straight victory, a new club record. But that did not bother Guardiola who challenged his table toppers to go on and grab silverware.

“The record is good if you lift something, titles or a trophy. It means a lot. Of course it is not easy to win 11 in a row, so it’s good,” the City boss said.

That Guardiola and Co. enjoy a five-point gap on top of the Premier League is partly thanks to United’s surprise loss at newly promoted Huddersfield. Goals from Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre gave the hosts a two-goal advantage before half-time substitute Marcus Rashford pulled a goal back.

But the Terriers held on to register a famous win. And Jose Mourinho admitted that the better team won.

“I’m disappointed, but the reality is they were stronger than us. I prefer to be at peace with football and to be at peace with football is when the best team wins,” the United boss said.

“A bad team deserves to be punished.”
