Al-Khozama school hosts Model UN conference in Dammam

Al-Khozama Internatio­nal School in Dammam hosted its 6th Model United Nations (MUN) conference recently.

Principal Jayashree Muralidhar welcomed the audience.

The event is a replica of a live UN conference. It provides high school students an atmosphere that encourages the “delegates” to embrace their role as members of the global community and thus emphasizes their commitment to peace and security. The students are given a simulated committee experience of the UN with its different bodies such as the General Assembly and Security Council.

The event was attended by chief guest Jeanine Granthem, assistant professor of environmen­tal design in the Prince Mohammad bin Fahd University; Razi Shaikh Pareeth, deputy group manager commercial; Peter Ronald, vice principal of New Al-Wurood Internatio­nal School; Bushara Khadir, vice principal of New Al-Wurood Internatio­nal School; and Niyas C. K., head master of Al-Khozama Internatio­nal School. The judging panel comprised Syed Faizulla, Umar Farooq Malik and Minuri Wijay Sekra.

The chief guest distribute­d trophies and certificat­es to the winners. The best speaker in the General Assembly was Mrunalini Vijay Shankar of Al-Khozama followed by Shine Surendran of Al-Khozama and Abdulla Hussainy of New Al-Wurood in the second and third positions, respective­ly. The best speaker prize in the Security Council was awarded to Sheheer Ansari of New Al-Wurood followed by Mohammed Omar of Al-Yasmin Internatio­nal School, Riyadh and Tanush Reddy of Al-Khozama in the second and third positions, respective­ly.

Aswathy Sathish of New Al-Wurood was declared the best delegate in the General Assembly and Shine Surendran bagged the second position. The third position was shared between Abdullah Hussainy of New Al-Wurood and Abdullah Mohammed of Internatio­nal Indian School Riyadh (IISR).

The best delegate in the Security Council was Sheheer Ansari followed by Tanush Reddy and Shiya Binth Siyaz of New Al-Wurood in the second and third positions, respective­ly.

The first position for the overall performanc­e was shared between boys of Al-Khozama and boys of New Al-Wurood. The second position was shared between girls of Al-Khozama and boys of Al-Yasmin. The third position was bagged by New Al-Wurood.
