- RASHID HASSAN

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia will host the sixth Conference of Health Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) next week that aims to discuss key issues in promoting health system in the member countries.

“Under the auspices of King Salman, the Kingdom will host the sixth conference of the OIC health ministers under the theme ‘Health in all Policies,’” the media department of the Ministry of Health said on Monday.

The health conference will be held in Jeddah from Dec. 5 to Dec. 7.

According to the ministry, the meeting will discuss important recommendations to promote health and upgrade health systems to achieve the objectives of the OIC Strategic Health Program of Action 20142023, as well as to make public health a priority policy in all systems and regulations.

The OIC adopted the Strategic Health Program of Action 2014-2023 at the fourth session of the Islamic Conference of Health Ministers held in Jakarta, Indonesia, in October 2013.

Earlier this year, the General Secretariat of the OIC convened a meeting concerning cancer programs.

The meeting, held in March in Sudan, and attended by the member states, reviewed the gaps in funding and mobilized resources for the implementation of priority interventions in national cancer control programs.

The project aimed at providing the required cancer health care services for the populations in the member countries.
