Pakistan Investors Forum elects new president, chairman

Two top Pakistani businessme­n Khalid Mahmood Raja and Khalid Chaudhry have been elected president and chairman of the Riyadh-based Pakistan Investors Forum (PIF), respective­ly. Raja and Chaudhry bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the work of the PIF, a major business group which ranks as an apex organizati­on of Pakistani investors operating in the Kingdom.

Addressing a press conference on Monday night in Riyadh, Raja said that the PIF, which works closely with the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) and the local Pakistan embassy, has elected six new office bearers. “This is a singular honor for me as I believe that a strong PIF plays a very important role in the historic and strong bilateral business relationsh­ip between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan,” he said.

Chaudhry said: “I am happy to be entrusted with this leadership position of the PIF that provides me with another avenue of continuing the work I have been promoting virtually all my life. All my efforts will be directed to boost business and investment relationsh­ip between Riyadh and Islamabad.”

He said veteran businessma­n Ghulam Safdar has been elected as vice president, while Babar Shah has been named general secretary of the PIF. An orator and businessma­n Tanvir M. Mian and another prominent community leader Zahid Latif Sandhu have been elected as joint secretary and finance secretary, respective­ly.

The Riyadh-based PIF is an associatio­n of Pakistani businessme­n and investors. It has a total of about 400 registered members. Its mandate is to promote cooperatio­n among Pakistani investors in Saudi Arabia and to support them to contribute more in the economic growth of the two countries. The PIF also organizes events and seminars to enhance knowledge and skills of Pakistani investors.

It is also planning to launch a major initiative to provide employment to young Pakistani profession­als and works in the Kingdom.

An oath-ceremony of the new office bearers, to be attended by Pakistani ambassador and diplomats, will take place soon in Riyadh.

Founded in 2002, the PIF helps and supports individual­s and organizati­ons to enhance trade and investment relations between the two countries.
