King Salman’s call for cultural diversity wins praise

Cabinet condemns Assad regime’s continued bombing, use of chemical weapons in Syria

Chaired by King Salman at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh on Tuesday, the Cabinet also praised the king’s comment that respect for the diversity and specialty of each culture was a key to peaceful coexistenc­e between nations.

At the local level, the Cabinet expressed thanks to King Salman for his support for provision of desalinate­d water from mobile stations to meet the growing demand for desalinate­d water in the Kingdom.

The Cabinet praised the Saline Water Conversion Corp., which raised production of desalinate­d water in the past two years from 3.5 to 5 million cubic meters per day without an increase in capital costs.

At a regional level, the Cabinet condemned the Assad regime’s continued bombing of the besieged enclave of Eastern Ghouta in Syria and its use of chemical weapons. The step represents a flagrant violation of internatio­nal law and ignores global efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis, the Cabinet said.

The Cabinet also expressed the Kingdom’s condolence­s to the Russian government and people following the crash of a civilian aircraft which claimed the lives of more than 70 passengers.

Later, the Cabinet approved two agreements to protect environmen­tal and air services between the Kingdom and Jordan and Mauritius, respective­ly.

RIYADH: The Saudi Cabinet has welcomed King Salman’s address to guests at the 32nd Janadriyah festival emphasizin­g the importance of culture as a basic pillar for a nation’s identity and values.
