Aden suicide attack kills mother and three children

-

ADEN: A Yemeni mother and three of her children have died from their wounds from a double suicide bombing in Aden.

Their deaths raise the death toll to 12 from the attack on Saturday on the headquarters of an antiterror unit.

The family was among seven people who succumbed to wounds sustained in the attack, which Daesh later admitted to.

Five other people, including security officers and a child, were killed instantly when two suicide car bombings hit the complex on a beach near the Tawahi district of Aden.

Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi on Sunday railed against terrorist elements, and those who support and finance them.

He said they were trying in vain to disturb the security and stability of Aden, Saudi state TV channel Al-Ekhbariya reported.

Aden is the temporary base for Hadi’s government, which is fighting to dislodge Houthi rebels from the capital Sanaa. But the three-year conflict has allowed extremist groups in the south to launch attacks and assassinations against the security forces.

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ahmed Al-Misri said in a phone call to Hadi that the security forces are continuing their primary mission of fighting terrorism and targeting its sources.

The bombings come after deadly clashes in Aden last month in which southern separatists seized much of the strategic coastal city from Yemen’s government.
