Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal issued directives on Sunday for the formation of a team to solve pressing issues with the development of the Wadi Al-Lith dam, which is currently under construction.

The team will consist of members from Makkah Municipality, the Makkah Region Development Authority, Civil Defense in the Makkah region, the secretariat of Jeddah Province, the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Agriculture, and the Ministry of Transport.

The dam’s landfill liner recently collapsed, and the prince assured residents of the region that the team would be preparing a comprehensive project for the dam’s development.

The prince was addressing a meeting at the Municipality of Makkah attended by top officials.

During the meeting, Prince Khaled ordered the preparation of a detailed timetable for the dam’s development, and a study of anti-flooding measures in Al-Lith. He also gave directives for the preparation of a comprehensive study into the development of the province, to be implemented in the next five years. The development study will need to be passed by the region’s council before being included in the region’s development plan, and a committee will be responsible for following up on its implementation.

The Wadi Al-Lith dam is scheduled to accommodate around 90 million cubic meters of water and, according to the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture’s proposal, the dam will be completed within the next two years.
