Shaqiri brace sends Liverpool back to top of table with win over United

-

Xherden Shaqiri proved the match-winner as Liverpool stormed back to the top of the Premier League table with a 3-1 win over Manchester United.

The home side were completely dominant from the start and took a deserved lead through Sadio Mane. United got a goal back before the break, Jesse Lingard capitalizing on a mistake in the Liverpool goal by Alisson.

But any worries fans had that United would frustrate the Reds were alleviated when substitute Shaqiri bagged a second-half brace to send Liverpool back to the top of the table, leapfrogging Manchester City.

In the early kick-off Southampton sprung a huge surprise as they beat Arsenal

3-2 at St. Mary’s. The Saints had won only once all season and the Gunners were on a 22-match unbeaten run.

But the hosts, under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, took the game to the north Londoners and were rewarded for their adventure with an early Danny Ings strike after 20 minutes. Henrikh Mkhitaryan leveled the scores just eight minutes later, but if people thought that strike would usher in a period of Arsenal dominance they were to be proved wrong.

Southampton again took the lead with another Ings strike, before Mkhitaryan had the help of a wicked deflection to make it 2-2. But Southampton kept on attacking and the

Saints were rewarded for their positivity with the winner in the 85th minute, as Charlie Austin headed past the stranded Bernd Leno in the Gunners’ goal.
