David Aguilar

The 19-year-old Spanish bioengineering student was born without a right forearm, but showed his skills as an innovator at an early age — creating a prosthetic arm out of Lego blocks when he was only 9.

A rare genetic condition meant Aguilar was born with a missing right forearm.

However, according to Reuters, he built his first prosthetic arm using the plastic bricks from his favorite toys. Each model he built had better movement capabilities.

“As a child I was very nervous to be in front of other guys, because I was different, but that didn’t stop me believing in my dreams,” said Aguilar, who is from Andorra, the tiny principality between Spain and France.

After graduation, Aguilar’s dream is to create affordable prosthetic limbs for those who need them.

“I would try to give them a prosthetic, even if it’s for free, to make them feel like a normal person, because what is normal, right?” he said.

Aguilar has received positive reactions online for his attitude.
