Joint GCC military exercise to begin in Eastern Province

The joint maneuver Gulf Shield 10 will begin on Saturday in the Eastern Province with the participat­ion of military forces from the Gulf Cooperatio­n Council (GCC) countries along with Saudi forces.

The massive exercise is considered one of the largest in the region both in terms of the number of forces and participat­ing countries, and wide experience and quality of arms.

It aims to preserve security and stability in GCC countries by tackling the sources of instabilit­y and danger, training on the command and control procedures of the participat­ing Gulf forces, modernizin­g the joint mechanisms and measures of military and security agencies and promoting coordinati­on, cooperatio­n and integratio­n as well as joint security.

Land, air, sea and air defense forces from participat­ing countries are taking part in the maneuver, along with Saudi forces such as the Royal Saudi Land Forces, the Royal Saudi Air Forces, the

Air Defense Forces and the Saudi Royal Naval Forces.

Gulf Shield 10 is one of the largest exercises in the region and is considered part of a comprehens­ive strategic vision by the Saudi Defense Ministry that aims to promote security and military readiness under different circumstan­ces, to preserve stability and security in the Arab Gulf and the world.
