Iran’s aggressive behavior cannot continue: Al-Jubeir
KSA will announce response to attacks on oil installations ‘in due course’
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir said that the country is “consulting with friends and allies about the next steps we will take” in response to the recent attacks on oil facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais.
At a press conference in New York on Wednesday, Al-Jubeir said the Kingdom is waiting for the results of the ongoing investigation into the attacks and will announce its response “in due course.”
The press conference was held by the minister and UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Mark Lowcock on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly. Al-Jubeir said: “We have conducted an investigation to ascertain the source of the launch of these missiles and drones, and preliminary results confirm that they were Iranian weapons, and we hold Iran responsible for this. Experts from the UN are now in the Kingdom along with experts from other countries working on this investigation. When we have the results we will decide (what to do based on) the options available after intensive consultations with friends and allies.
“The bottom line is that Iran’s behavior cannot continue like this,” the minister continued. “Iran must abide by international law and comply with the well-established world order. This aggressive Iranian behavior must stop.” In regard to the Popular Mobilization militia currently operating in Iraq, he said: “I think the whole world is talking to Iraq about this, and the whole world wants to see a solution. Iraq is a state that must enjoy its full sovereignty and independence.”
Discussing the situation in Yemen, Lowcock said that many people there would have died without the Kingdom’s generous funding, but added that humanitarian aid cannot fully solve the problem. On the reported theft of aid by Houthi militias, Lowcock said the UN investigates all such allegations.
“We are determined that the funds we get from generous donors get to the desired destinations,” he said.
Later, Al-Jubeir chaired the delegation of the Kingdom in the meeting of the contact group of the OIC countries on Jammu and Kashmir. He also met the UN special envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths and discussed issues of common interest.
