Friday was World Tourism Day and this year’s theme was “Tourism and Jobs — A Better Future For All.” The UN reported that, over the past six decades, tourism has become one of the fastest-growing and most important economic sectors in the world. International tourist arrivals worldwide have grown from 25 million in 1950 to nearly 1.3 billion today. Global tourism revenue grew from $2 billion in 1950 to $1,260 trillion in 2015. Tourism makes up an estimated 10 percent of the world’s GDP and is responsible for one in every 10 jobs globally. The UN World Tourism
Organization (UNWTO) expects tourism to continue to grow at an average of 3 percent annually until 2030.
