Lewis Hamilton

-

British racing driver Lewis Hamilton, who competes in Formula One for MercedesAMG Petronas Motorsport, won the Russian Grand

Prix on Sunday.

The defending five-time champion came home 3.829 seconds ahead of teammate and nearest championship rival Valtteri Bottas as Mercedes took advantage of Ferrari’s reliability and tactical problems by delivering a Silver Arrows one-two.

BBC Sport reported that Hamilton was handed victory in the Russian Grand Prix after a virtual safety car cost Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc the lead. “Hamilton’s first win in four grands prix inched him closer to a sixth world title and came after Ferrari’s chances of victory fell apart following a controversy over Leclerc’s team-mate Sebastian Vettel disobeying team orders,” the report said. “Ferrari’s pre-race plan was for Leclerc to tow Vettel down into the first corner to remove the risk of Hamilton, starting second, taking the lead. “Leclerc played his side of the bargain, but once Vettel was in the lead, he refused a demand to let his teammate back past him. “Hamilton scored an extra point for fastest lap and his championship lead is now at 73 points. Mathematically, he cannot win the title at the next race in Japan

— but he could well do it the race after that in Mexico.” Toto Wolff, Mercedes team chief, claimed his team had taken a major step toward retaining their titles with Hamilton’s unexpected victory in Sunday’s Russian Grand Prix.

Wolff admitted that Mercedes did not have the quickest car at the Sochi Autodrom, but had won thanks to some luck, good strategy and a never-say-die belief in their chances.

He offered sympathy to his Ferrari counterpart Mattia Binotto. “That’s why we love racing. You can win when you haven’t got the quickest package. It makes it so special — it’s unbelievable.”

“We’re overwhelmed and it’s a big step toward the championship,” he said. Toronto Biennial at the Small Arms Inspection Building, Mississauga, Ontario, with his “study for a garden” piece — a stack of sharpened sticks cast in bronze.
