Ahmed Al-Hakbani

Ahmed Al-Hakbani has been governor of Saudi Customs since January 2017. He earned his bachelor’s degree in computer informatio­n systems from King Saud University in 2000, and his master’s degree in strategy, economics and internatio­nal business from INSEAD in France.

From 2011 to 2012, he attended the London School of Economics and Political Science. He also attended the IMD Business School in 2015.

His career began at Microsoft as a technical account manager from 2000 to 2004. In 2006, he served as a business developmen­t manager for Cisco Systems, and two years later he became an IT and strategy adviser to the deputy minister of planning and IT, in a freelance capacity.

Al-Hakbani was a transforma­tion director and freelance consultant at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2013. He also served as an adviser to the minister of commerce and industry and a director general of internatio­nal communicat­ion in that ministry between 2014 and late 2015, and he served as deputy minister of foreign trade in 2016.

Saudi Customs is participat­ing in the Internatio­nal Federation of Freight Forwarders Associatio­ns (FIATA) World Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

During his speech, Al-Haqbani reviewed various stages of the Kingdom’s transforma­tion under the ambitious plans of Saudi

Vision 2030.

The first step for Saudi Customs, he explained, is to become the best regional customs service, contributi­ng to the Kingdom’s vision of becoming a global platform for logistical services, and raising economic competitiv­eness.
