Jenna Marbles

Jenna Marbles, one of YouTube’s most original content creators, recently uploaded a video announcing she will quit the platform because of internet backlash.

The video, titled “A Message,” is an apology for several older videos uploaded at the beginning of her YouTube career. She said she was asked why the videos are being made private. Marbles said it was the result of backlash she is receiving for several videos in which she poked fun at music star Nicki Minaj.

She wears a pink wig in the videos and is allegedly wearing blackface. However, Marbles showed other clips from the same video where her complexion looked the same. “I just want to tell you that it was not my intention to do blackface, and I don’t know how else to say this because it doesn’t matter, what matters is that people were offended and it hurt them and for that I am so unbelievably sorry.”

She added: “This isn’t OK, and it hasn’t existed on the internet for a long time, because it is not OK.”

She also shared another video where she wore Asian attire, to which she said: “This has also been made private, I don’t want to offend anyone, I am not interested in it.”

Marbles said: “The only thing I would like to say is that I am just a person trying to navigate the world the same way that you are, I don’t always know what’s right, what’s wrong and what the truth is. I am just trying my best as someone clearly with their own past that they are not proud of.”

She added that she was on YouTube just to have a good time and that currently, she was not having a good time: “So, for now I just can’t exist on this channel, so I just want to move on from this channel for now, I don’t know how long it is going to be.” She ended the video by thanking her longtime viewers.
