Pakistan’s Ambassador to

Saudi Arabia Raja Ali Ejaz visited Al- Sultan Falcon

Center and Al- Sultan Falcon Hospital in Arar, in the Northern Borders region. Falcon breeding is an ancient hobby in the Arabian Peninsula and has spread from Central Asia to Europe. Popular among nobles, falcon breeding played a major role in diplomacy during the Middle Ages. Arab falcon-breeding countries adopt similar breeding and training techniques, except for some specific details.

The Pakistani envoy was briefed about the center’s role in falcon breeding, training and health matter.

The owner of the facilities, Sultan, told the ambassador that the center was among 12 such facilities in the Kingdom.

It houses around 50 falcons on average at a time. Falcons are among the strongest and most popular predatory birds, characterized by their sharp eyesight and claws. Their great hunting ability is what led humans to start using them. Their height varies between 25cm and 75cm, and they weigh 2 kg. Female falcons are bigger than the males. Falcons nest in rocky reefs, trees, or on the ground, and generally build their nests with sticks, though some use small branches.

The ambassador was given a guided tour of the falcon hospital.

He expressed keen interest in the facility and praised the center’s efforts for “providing amazing care” to the birds by a team of dedicated professionals.

The envoy wished the center and its team members success in their endeavors.
