Brazilian labels in the spotlight at Arab Fashion Week

The work of five designers hailing from Brazil was showcased in the Brazil Noble section of Dubai’s Arab Fashion Week (AFW), which ran from Oct. 21-24.

Dubai-based label AAVVA on Thursday presented its FallWinter 2020 collection, titled “Mother of Pearls,” during the 12th edition of the event, which took place virtually.

AAVVA was founded by Lebanese and Brazilian design duo Ahmad Ammar and Vincenzo Visciglia. The ready-to-wear label has been on the market since 2011, continuously creating stylish and avant-garde silhouettes.

The brand showcased its new pieces as part of Brazil Noble, the first ever virtual fashion event that aims to bring Brazilian fashion to the world through AFW.

For their latest collection, the pair were inspired by the UAE’s history and success.

“We wanted to pay tribute to the country that inspired us to start and grow to where we are today, and also mix the free-spiritedness, art, and vibe of the Brazilian design,” they told Arab News.

The new creations feature black and white looks embroidered with angelic white pearls.

“We wanted to be chic, but also since our previous collection was full of color, we were in the mood for something more muted yet extremely lavish. The pearl embroidery is not like something we’ve done before, intricate, full, and yet simplistic in essence,” they said. Other fashion designers to showcase their collections during the digital- only event include Vitor Zerbinato, Emannuelle Junqueira, Sandro Barros and jewelry designer Andrea Conti.

Zerbinato, whose extravagant designs can be found in boutiques across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Morocco and Egypt, presented an eye-catching collection of cocktail dresses and voluminous couture gowns in luxurious materials such as duchess satin, pure silk taffeta and chemise.

Meanwhile, Junqueira presented a glamorous Spring 2021 collection of ethereal white gowns and expertly tailored evening wear in a pink, red, black and gray color palette.

For her part, Conti sent out a lineup of models wearing dazzling jewels paired with dresses supplied by AAVVA, while Barros churned out an ultra-glamorous collection of 16 looks that will no doubt find itself on postCOVID-19 future red carpets.
