Saudi Arabia has welcomed the presidential statement issued by the UN Security Council condemning the attacks of the terrorist Houthi militia on the Kingdom’s territory and its civilian facilities.

The message is a confirmation of the importance that the members of the Security Council attribute to the Yemeni crisis, said an official statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency.

It is also a “recognition of the importance of solving the crisis politically, to limit its negative repercussions” caused by the terrorist Houthi militia’s rejection of calls for a ceasefire, the statement added.

The Kingdom has lamented the further deterioration of the humanitarian situation resulting from the ongoing practices of the Houthi militia, such as sieging cities and preventing humanitarian aid from reaching Yemeni areas in need.

The Kingdom, the statement said, “extends its gratitude and appreciation to the member states of the Security Council for issuing this statement. It comes within the framework of the Council’s responsibilities to maintain international peace and security and represents an important boost to the efforts made for the success of the Kingdom’s endeavors that were discussed during its publicized initiative announced on March 22, 2021, to put an end to the Yemeni crisis.”

These endeavors, it added, are also in line with the Kingdom’s efforts at the regional and international levels “to support reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis.”

The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen said: “The Security Council’s condemnation confirms the special importance that the members of the council attach to the Yemen crisis.”

It stresses the “importance of solving the crisis politically to contain its negative repercussions resulting from the Houthi terrorist militia’s rejection of ceasefire calls,” he added.

Al-Othaimeen expressed thanks to the Security Council members for their interest in this situation, which came “within the framework of their responsibilities toward maintaining international peace and security.”

Bahrain, meanwhile, also welcomed the Security Council’s statement condemning the Houthi attacks, Bahrain News Agency reported.

Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry hailed the statement “which expresses international support for the sincere efforts being made by Saudi Arabia to reach a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis.”
