‘All Quiet on the Western Front’
Erich Maria Remarque’s landmark novel “All Quiet on the Western Front” has once again been adapted for film. The 1929 anti-war novel shows the lives of German soldiers in the
First World War, detailing the extreme physical and mental toll of the conflict.
The adaptation, produced by Neflix, will be the latest attempt to encapsulate the essence of the book on the big screen. The film’s trailer opens with a quote by Remarque that reads: “This is neither an accusation nor a confession and least of all an adventure for death is not an adventure to those who stand face to face with it.”
The main character, Paul Baumer, is played by Felix Kammerer, who is shown as young and naive. He joins the army as a patriotic act, but soon comes face to face with the realities of war.
The movie is directed by Edward Berger and produced by Daniel Marc Dreifuss, Malte Grunert and Ian Stokell.

@Ceronvich tweeted: “The First World War never received the historical understanding and attention it deserved. Glad to see this changing. Horrible war. When I started reading books about it, the numbers … incomprehensible.”
@masaccio60 reviewed the movie, saying: “Went to see ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ today. What an incredible film. Genuinely brilliant, utterly gut-wrenching and everything I hoped ‘1917’ would be but wasn’t. I feel completely exhausted by it. A must-see, even if you have no interest in the First World War.”

watch, but it’s presented in the most visually stunning way. From cinematography to editing, this is a pure filmmaking showcase
… a truly unforgettable experience.
Wow.”
