The Neighbourhood

-

Brandon Fried, the drummer of The Neighbourhood, has been kicked out of the band following a sexual assault allegation.

This accusation came from The

Marías’ María Zardoya who posted on her Instagram Story details of the assault incident, writing: “I was at a bar last night, and I was groped under the table by Brandon Fried, the drummer of The Neighborhood.

“It was one of the most uncomfortable things I’ve ever experienced. I felt an invasion of my space, privacy and body. @thenbhd y’all need a new drummer, this guy is a complete creep.”

The band responded to Zardoya saying that they “are grateful to María for coming forward” and that they

“have zero tolerance for any kind of inappropriate behavior towards women,” then notified her that the drummer “will no longer be a member of The Neighbourhood.”

Fried also released a statement on his personal Instagram

Story apologizing to

Zardoya, saying:

“I am so terribly sorry to María.

My actions were inexcusable and intolerable.

“They are not reflective of who I am as a person, but clearly a reflection of who I become under the influence,” he added. “It is evident that I must address my problems with alcohol and substance abuse, which I am now seeking help for.”

The now-former member continued: “I want to apologize to women who have been victims of any behavior that has left them feeling uncomfortable or violated.”

Fried concluded his statement by apologizing to the band and fans, writing: “I am also sorry to The Neighbourhood and our fans for letting them down.”

After The Neighbourhood and

Fried’s statements, Zardoya shared on Instagram Story that she is thankful for those who showed their support.

“Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out with your support and love, I appreciate it so much,” she wrote. “I hope all the women who have had shit like this happen to them find peace. love u all.”

The Neighbourhood is an American rock band that consists of vocalist Jesse Rutherford, guitarists Jeremy Freedman and Zach Abels, bassist

Mikey Margot, and, formerly, drummer Fried. The band is known for its hit “Sweater Weather.”
