Iraqi sur­geon Am­mar ibn Ali al-mawsili in­vented the first med­i­cal sy­ringe. His sy­ringe was a hol­low glass tube topped with a nee­dle, which he used for ex­tract­ing cataracts from the eyes of his brave (un­doubt­edly des­per­ate) pa­tients.
