BREAKING DOWN THE HUAWEI P9
While the mobile phone has many features worth mentioning, these three
impressed me most.
TWO’S A PARTY
The P9 isn’t the first smartphone to be equipped with two lenses, but it is the only
one (at the moment) with a monochrome image sensor. Not only does it allow you to shoot true black-and-white images rather than passing your colour pictures through
a filter, it also enables more light and therefore, more dynamic and tonal range to be captured. The pictures are noticeably sharper, more vibrant and vivid, even in low
light or difficult conditions.
BATTERY LIFE FOR DAYS
To be exact, two days, but that’s already a 100 per cent improvement over most other smartphones in the market now. Despite its incredible thinness – the P9 measures 6.95mm, thinner than the iPhone 6s by 0.15mm – the phone packs a 3,000 mAh battery. In comparison, the iPhone’s battery only comes in at a middling 1,715 mAh. How did Huawei achieve this? Li tells me it’s down to three things: clever resource management, the material used and the
high-powered Kirin 955 chipset.
FORT KNOX-ESQUE FINGERPRINT SENSOR
Most smartphones now come with a fingerprint sensor that detects the almost invisible lines on your digits. The P9 takes
it one step further. It even senses the thickness of your grooves, in case someone lifts your prints of your possessions using
scotch tape and ingenuity. You can rest assured that your incriminating photos and videos will be kept safe from prying eyes.
