JAEGER-LECOULTRE has long supported various initiatives and projects in filmmaking. It presents the Glory to the Filmmaker Award at
(and with) the Venice International Film Festival, for example, to honour artists for extraordinary contributions to the development of contemporary cinema. The maison’s involvement in the field naturally extends to specific individuals that it collaborates with, such as recently appointed Friend of the Maison, Nicholas Hoult, who has worked with Jaeger-LeCoultre since 2015.
Hoult, who was our AUGUSTMAN cover personality early last year, has become one of Hollywood’s leading men in the past few years. He first broke onto the scene at 11, when he starred opposite Hugh Grant in 2002’s About A Boy. Numerous other roles and awards followed, including a series of X-Men films where he played Hank McCoy/Beast. On hindsight, Hoult’s collaboration with Jaeger-LeCoultre was an easy decision for both partners to make ‒ filmmaking and watchmaking demand excellence on both technical and artistic fronts, after all, and the two share similar approaches to their respective crafts.
As an actor, what are your thoughts about brands supporting the arts, like what Jaeger-LeCoultre is doing for filmmaking?
I think that close relationships between different creative fields are important, because they can learn from one another and evolve together. As an actor, for instance, I was inspired by my visit to the brand’s manufacture, and this new understanding of its commitment and ideals is something that I can then incorporate into my work.
