The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 2)

-

Now that Zeus’s lightning bolt has been returned and the world of the Greek Gods is not calm and quiet, Percy Jackson can focus on a most serious matter; the last day of his seventh grade year at school! His summer will be spent having a great time at Camp Half- Blood with the other demigod children. He can forget the weird kid who follows him around all day at school. He can forget everything! This is a place where he can be himself without worrying about letting any of the secrets surrounding his true nature slip out. But, just as it usually is in real life, Percy’s dream of a fun summer with friends is quickly ends when new troubles surface. Before it is even time for his summertime excursion, Percy is having nightmares. In his dreams he is seeing Grover surrounded by danger and has no idea that his dreams are actually reality base. While in school he finds that the danger he has been dreaming of is quite real when he is attacked in his gym class by some pretty scary monsters. His friend Annabeth swoops in to save him and the weird kid who has been creeping Percy out the whole year. He finds himself racing to Camp Half- Blood where he finds out that the weird kid at school is a Cyclops, as well as the son of Poseidon, making him Percy’s half brother! But Percy must think about this later as the camp is in great danger. Percy’s best friend Grover has been demigod napped and taken to the Sea of Monsters, better known as The Bermuda Triangle and the magical boarders of Camp Half-blood have been compromised by enemies. A poison has been let lose by an unknown enemy, making the camp, the only safe haven for the children of demigods, a place of unpredictable danger from the monsters of mythology. To save their safe haven, Percy must risk everything to save Grover from the Island of the Cyclopes where they must also get the Golden Fleece that will help them to save the camp. If the Golden Fleece is not in their hands by the summer’s end, Camp Half-blood will no longer be in existence. This story is full of exciting twists and turns, but none as thrilling as the newest secret that Percy will find out about his family! This unmentionable secret is one that leaves Percy wondering if being a part of Poseidon’s family is a stroke of luck or more trouble than it is worth. This book is full of adventure of the action packed variety with a mixture of modern characters, classic mythology and edge of your seat drama.
