Gateway to the Amazon

-

With Manaus located in the state of Amazonas, a visit to the area would be incomplete without a tour along the Amazon River, the second-longest river in the world. This is the perfect way to view the Amazonian rainforest.

However, if a trip to the Amazonian rainforest seems somewhat expensive, you should explore the city’s zoo. At a fraction of the price, you will be able to see rare animals such as black jaguars, spider monkeys and toucans at Manaus Zoo.

If piranhas are your “cup of tea” then you will definitely want to head to Piranha

Lake which is located in Manacapuru, around 100 kilometres from Manaus. The fish, which can be found in South American lakes and rivers, are renowned for their very sharp teeth and meaty appetite.

For excursions to beaches and parks near the city, the most practical way to get to your destination is by boat. The Paricatuba Waterfall, on the right bank of the Negro River, is formed by grainy rocks and surrounded by much foliage. The best time to visit the waterfall is between August and February. Love Cascade, situated in the Guedes bayou, boasts cold and magnificently crystalclear water. You can then hike through the forest when you get there.

Tupé Beach is about 34 km from Manaus. You can only get there by boat. Moon Beach, situated on the left bank of the Negro River, is found 23 km from Manaus. Like Tupé Beach, it is reachable only by boat. The beach, surrounded by rare foliage, got its name from its shape – a crescent moon.
