Art for kids

Never mind the long summer holidays ahead, children are spoilt for choice with all the kid-centric festivals and exhibition­s kicking off this month. Here are just a few:

#1 Children’s Biennale

What: This four-month programme features arty activities and installati­ons, a film festival and other events, both indoor and outdoor. Highlights include nine interactiv­e artworks, an outdoor festival in July, plus the reopening of the Keppel Centre for Art Education after a revamp. #2 Imaginariu­m

What: As well as internatio­nal art installati­ons from nine contempora­ry artists, the jam-packed programme – now in its seventh year – includes artist performanc­es, short-film screenings, a photo booth and hands-on workshops. #3 Children’s Season

What: Highlights this year include an interactiv­e tour of the museum’s galleries, story-telling sessions, hands-on play activities, a presentati­on of animated children’s cinema classics as well as installati­ons by French artists. #4 National Heritage Board Children’s Season

What: This diverse and extensive programme of events includes workshops and activities ranging from an “I Want to be a Policeman” session to a Cyanotype printing workshop and a performanc­e of Hansel and Gretel – something to suit every child. #5 Making It Home

What: Playeum’s new interactiv­e exhibition, designed for children aged one to 12 years, celebrates the home as the origin of creativity, artistry and thought. Look out for a programme of holiday camps, creative and art-inspired activities, and “Tinkering Sunday” sessions.
