Travel Journal:

Back from a holiday, wanting to hold onto those magical memories, but never have enough time to put together a proper scrapbook? This app may be the answer!

A modern way to save memories

So, here we are: January, bathed in the glow of recent holiday memories. Many of us made our way back home for the break, while others took advantage of the slow time at work for a big holiday adventure.

Nothing is quite as lovely, right? Remembering those moments and places that make a holiday so magical. There really is this red-letter kind of feeling when you first return – a girlish kind of crush on the place you just went.

In the days after every holiday, I vow to organise my photos and thoughts so I can relive the trip over and over. I want to capture it to show my kids when they’re older so they’ll remember it, too. I daydream on the plane home about sorting our photos so my husband and I can look at them when we’re toothless and eating mush in a nursing home. I think how cool it’d be to share my adventure with a friend who’s planning their own trip to the same place.

But I never quite get it done. I hit the ground running after a holiday and, before I know it, weeks have passed and the trip has slipped into oblivion. Big sigh.

A new way to remember

Things have changed! Recently, I’ve been using a new app, STRING Travel, that works a bit like a travel log, only far cooler. STRING lets me log my trip on the go. I can add photos and comments as I visit places – right then and there while I’m standing on the spot. It’s kind of like Instagram with a purpose. Or, I can go back later and fill in the details if I’d like. The best part? It’s easy.

The cool thing is that when I do use the app, I have a travel log all done when I get home. I can use it to look back at my trip rather than stumbling on photos a year from now and thinking, “Oh, that was cool. Where was that?” Or searching for a photo that I just can’t find to save my life. Now, all the photos and info are right there in my account – bam, done! And it’s shareable. My husband can look at it and my kids can, too; plus, I can easily share all this travel wisdom with my friends planning the same trip. Easy peasy.

I can also use the app to plan a trip, building what I want to do from different itineraries logged by other users. Sure, I would probably still look at my old go-to trip planning sites or discover places through word of mouth, but STRING makes where I store my travel tales meaningful. I can check out my friends’ trip memories, too, which makes the whole planning process more personal.
