Trimmings

The service at Trimmings’ spacious Dempsey salon is always consistent and professional, plus the spa-like setting makes for an amazing experience every time. You’re greeted with an uplifting lemongrass scent upon entering, which sets the mood for a relaxing session, whether you’re getting a hair makeover or a quick mani.

My hairstylist Melissa is an experienced hair and makeup artist who used to do lots of bridal looks, so she’s the perfect person to go to as I’m getting married next month! I showed her a few photos of my preferred colour and we decided on a natural balayage look: light honey highlights on dark brown hair. This style would look great as a halfup, half-down hairdo, which was what I had in mind for the big day.

As my hair is naturally dark, it has to go through a round of bleaching for the highlights to appear. Melissa assured me that she’d include an Olaplex treatment to nourish and smoothen my damaged strands. She was gentle, affable and detailed when answering my questions.

Three hours later – full head highlights, Olaplex treatment, haircut – I’m treated to a hot towel wrap and quick shoulder massage using peppermint oil from Aveda’s spa range – my favourite part! Melissa gave me soft and bouncy curls to show off the highlights, and advised me to use a purple shampoo twice a week to prevent brassiness. She recommended the Aveda Blue Malva, a plant-based shampoo for blonde and ashy tones.

When I return for a touch-up in two months, I know I’ll be in good hands!
