Look & Feel Good Too!

- BY CHERRY LAI

It’s 2024, and being fashionable and eco-conscious at the same time is no longer just a dream! So why not make the switch from fast fashion to mindful labels that are both sustainable and ethical? Here are two amazing sustainable fashion brands you can find right here in Singapore to get you started. Badger & Fox

One of our favourite ethical clothing stores, Badger & Fox is a beloved Tanglin Mall boutique that’s built upon the principle of uniting handmade and sustainable brands that not only celebrate artistry but also honour sustainable practices.

Under its roof you’ll find plenty of these brands, including Tigers in Paris, known for its gorgeous block printed boho dresses. This familyrun brand works closely with small families in India to ensure that each garment is handcrafted with care and attention to detail. From sourcing eco-friendly materials to implementing ethical manufacturing processes, Tigers in Paris aims to set the standard for responsible fashion. By supporting local artisans and traditional techniques, it preserves cultural heritage while also fostering sustainable livelihoods within the community.

Besides Tigers in Paris, check out the array of other lovely finds at Badger & Fox – from slow fashion brands to accessories, jewellery and homeware made with craftsmanship and conscientiousness in mind – as founder Zdenka Rejha invites consumers to embrace a more sustainable approach to style.

Bastide Colombe

With boutiques in Cluny Court and Wheelock Place, Bastide Colombe is no stranger to EL readers who love a bit of Mediterranean flair in their footwear. The brand was founded by French entrepreneur Emma Hebrard with the ambition to curate stylish espadrilles that pay tribute to time-honed artisanship and sustainable practices.

The styles here are all handmade in partnership with Gaimo, a family-run atelier house located in La Rioja in northern Spain. They’ve been making espadrilles since 1978, employing whole families that have mastered the creation of these versatile and beautiful shoes.

That’s not all. Materials used in Bastide Colombe’s footwear are also 100 percent natural, crafted from organic jute to luxurious leathers, soft suede and organic cotton, with natural rubber for the outsole, making it a sustainable option that’s also perfect for Singapore’s climate. In the brand’s boutiques, you’ll also find a unique selection of women’s apparel and accessories, in collaboration with Singapore-based designers and emerging French brands, curated especially with two criteria: a sustainable approach in their production and an effortless chic style that evokes summers in the French Riviera!

“Bastide” refers to traditional houses in the south of France, and “colombe” means dove. The name beautifully captures the ethos of the brand – casual yet sophisticated, while celebrating a passion for tradition and the freedom of the artist, and inspired by endless summer.
