THE IT BAG: A KIDULT BAG

The latest variety is quirky cool, not annoyingly cutesy.

Teaming up with Disney, Coach has decorated pochettes (below, in refined calf leather, $525 each) and totes with images from Snow White and Sleeping Beauty – albeit with a gothic twist – for its A Dark Fairytale Pre-Fall collection. Meanwhile, Louis Vuitton’s New Wave Chain shoulder bag (above, in lambskin, $3,100-$3,500 each) is inspired by the ’80s electro influenced music movement; its silk-screened, rainbow-hued “Vuitton” motif meant to add a rebellious touch. Both balance a dash of youthfulness with classicism (cue the sophisticated bag shapes and finishes) to come across as quirky cool, not annoyingly cutesy.
