Spring/summer 2018 is the season of tricked-out trench coats. Jonathan Anderson added movement to his by shredding the ends of the outerwear at Loewe, while Max Mara employed an exquisite gauze fabric that turned the coat’s masculine quality on its head. Meanwhile, John Galliano deconstructed its military nature by lining its exterior with feathers at Maison Margiela. Despite its newfound veneer, the trench coat’s versatility continues to shine through. A version crafted from laminated gabardine is a good investment piece that lets you ease into the trend effortlessly. To heig heighten the effect, surround the trench coat with accessories that are equally eq directional in their outlook: A statement bag done up in the likeness l of a motorcycle case, for example, should do the trick.
