EXTRA VIOLET

-

If there’s one occasion that calls for a makeover, it’s Chinese New Year. One easy, stylish way to make a statement and update your look is to change your hair colour. But don’t just rely on the usual red shades – choose the Vibrant Reds series from Shiseido Professional’s 2016 Spring Colour Collection: An Oriental Collective.

Specially formulated for Asian hair, this collection goes beyond traditional reds to suit modern tastes without being old-fashioned. The range – which includes Extra Red, Extra Copper and Extra Violet – combines a yellowish brown base with different hues in varying degrees of intensity for added dimension and longer-lasting colours. Each shade is said to last for up to two months, with proper haircare and use of colour-protecting products. And as the colour fades, your hair will be left with a yellow brown tint that still complements your skin tone.

Need proof? These hairstylists and influencers have tried and tested the three, with exceptional results. According to Shiseido Professional, violet is actually one of the more popular choices for hair colour.

Calvin Gan, creative director of Hairloom Salon, explains: “This shade is great if you want a rich colour, yet seek a natural and healthy look.” He used the balayage technique on Goh Si Pei, co-owner of fashion and design blog Wit X Folly, for a vibrant, multi-toned hue.

Si Pei says: “This is a refreshing change from the usual dark brown and red tones that I gravitate towards. It has given me a fresh perspective and attitude when it comes to putting my wardrobe together every morning.”
