in fine FORM

When times get tough, the tough get going. And that is indeed true of Singapore’s restaurant scene. Despite challenges in everything from overheads to labour, the top restaurants in our culinary landscape have managed to up their game even further.

We would know; after all, G Restaurant Awards is in its eighth year running, and our panel of experienced food writers and editors have over the years dined at multiple establishments and evaluated their standards. Together with an external jury comprising ambassadors, business leaders and wine experts, we visited the places incognito, and were highly impressed. This year, we have 52 Awards of Excellence winners – our longest list to date.

Top-notch restaurants such as Restaurant Andre and Hashida Sushi are setting the bar high for the industry, with fierce attention to detail in every aspect, and a smooth sophistication that is world class. New this year, we are introducing The G Hallmark of Excellence to award to the venerable Les Amis. This stalwart has been consistently meeting stellar standards since we launched the awards in 2010.

Evergreen hotel establishments such as Cherry Garden and Gordon Grill are not resting on their laurels either, and continue to charm with their consistent offerings. These iconic places stand proud in a competitive landscape that is seeing a greater influx of international names, from Michelin-star brands to celebrity chefs.

Adding vibrancy to the scene is a wonderful collective of casual-chic independent concepts. Bursting with character, brimming with creativity and doling personable service in spades are places like Whitegrass, Cure and Cheek by Jowl. They might be indie restaurants now, but we think there are big things in store for these bright sparks of the industry. We say eat, drink, and celebrate the fine fight put up by the best in our F&B scene.
