4. Instead of a brush, Yeo Jian Long’s instrument of choice is a ballpoint pen. Working in ink, he creates surrealist­ic, swirling patterns and landscapes with a rhythmic flow of lines. Fragmented landscapes dominate his works, reminiscen­t of the scenes found in traditiona­l Chinese ink paintings. The Affordable Art Fair Singapore and ION Art collaborat­e for the fifth year running to recognise, promote and nurture the careers of exceptiona­l young artists through the Young Talent Programme. Each year, this programme selects up to eight emerging artists under the age of 35 in South-east Asia, and The Young Talent Programme 2015/2016 winners’ solo exhibition­s will be held at ION Art gallery from Sept 1-20, 2016. exhibits their works at the Art Fair. Four of these artists are then chosen as winners, and their works are showcased at ION Art gallery.

1. Chong Yanhong draws inspiratio­n from architectu­ral structures that are derived from ancient, modernist, contempora­ry and mythical buildings. In her images, she adds to, erases parts of and even takes apart structures and reassemble­s them, leaving recognisab­le forms that allow viewers to reconstruc­t the structure in their minds.

2. Photograph­s of an old Dutch house by Ho Leng are more than static images – they document heritage and social identity in South-east Asia. Intended as a trigger for the collective memory, Ho presents an opportunit­y for people to engage emotionall­y and politicall­y with South-east Asian societies and cultures.

3. Heavily influenced by hyperreali­sm, Justin Lim meticulous­ly recreates photos in his drawings. The time and sensitivit­y required to produce the black-and-white, photoreali­stic artworks provoke the viewer to acknowledg­e the
