OWN PLAN, OWN TARGET

With a free-to-use platform called Up, people can make informed decisions and plan their financial future

“We started BetterTradeOff (BTO) on the belief that we could leverage technology to provide people, regardless of financial acumen or net worth, with a means of making better decisions regarding their financial future,” says CEO and co-founder, Mr. Laurent Bertrand, “in a way that was comprehensive, transparent, unbiased, 100 per cent secure and free.”

This led to the development of life-planning platform ‘Up’ (www.upplan.sg), a free-touse consumer platform which simplifies financial planning with a do-it-yourself tool for exploring and understanding different financial choices and outcomes. Interactive and highly visual, Up makes it easy for people to see and understand the impact of every decision they make as they explore a wide range of financial situations, from purchasing a new home to managing expenses and income, saving and investing, and getting insurance. Mr. Bertrand describes Up as the future at your fingertips: “With Up, a person can build his financial plan online in as little as 15 minutes.”

Before its launch, Up was a proven B2B solution across multiple markets that provided leading financial institutions with a collaborative tool. It allows advisors to work together with clients on a plan to finance their goals. BTO is currently working on the launch of multiple white-label and co-branded solutions with major global financial institutions.

With the addition of partner organizations to the platform, Up becomes a marketplace that brings consumers, advisors, and product providers together. “We recently added iCompareLoan, a leading mortgage-comparison portal, to Up, providing users with better home purchase planning and mortgage refinancing functionality. We recently allowed users to integrate multiple bank accounts – both local and overseas – with a new partner Salt Edge; as well as add digital wealth manager Syfe, providing Up users with access to professionally managed global investment portfolios.” Several other partner integrations are underway.

In addition to delivering an enhanced user experience, by allowing users to act on the plans they create seamlessly, partners are a source of revenue sharing and lead generation income for Up.

In 2018, BTO won the Global FinTech Hackcelerator, which was organized by the MonetaryAuthorityofSingapore(MAS).Thecompanyalsowonthe‘DIAmond Award — Most Innovative Start-up’ at the most prestigious InsurTech event in the world, the DIA Conference 2018. Most recently, it was selected as the Zurich Innovation Champion for Malaysia-earning a place in the APAC finals this coming June as one of 25 remaining companies from the over 1,300 world-class FinTechs invited to participate globally
