the rms05 by Richard Mille is not your average fountain pen — which shouldn’t come as a surprise, since the Swiss watchmaker is best known for its avant-garde creations. Fitted with a specially developed baguette movement that serves as the mechanical system that deploys the pen’s nib, the calibre (activated with a button at the top) is based on a repeater mechanism and comes equipped with a recoil escapement and barrel. Replacing the cap will send the nib back into the pen’s barrel and generate energy for the next deployment. A product of four years of research and development, the RMS05 is machined from NTPT carbon and available in a limited number of pieces only. It is a pity, though, that this writing instrument doesn’t tell the time. Perhaps the next one will?
