Prestige (Singapore)

A Coming Of Age

- Lauren Tan | EDITOR

I’M INCREDIBLY HUMBLED that you’ve stopped at this page. It gives me the opportunity to self-promote and call attention to the dedication and hard work that everyone in the Prestige family pours into every issue, every event and digital post. It is a big family and we number in the dozens, right down to the guy (consistently voted “Most Helpful” at our oce party awards) who delivers your extra five copies because you want to share your article with family and friends.

It takes such a big team because no one wants to draw the short straw and tell our group publisher: “No, this can’t be done.” It takes such a big team because if you are going to do something, well then, kill it. Make it something you can be proud of.

This issue, the editorial team went all out, contacting and featuring some 100 personalities within these pages. About 60 were personally photographed, in what was a coordinated logistical feat. At the same time, our Fairy Godmother and her team were planning the Ball of all balls for 600 VIP guests.

We weren’t gunning for numbers. Rather, our objective is — and always has been — to connect with our readers; to connect with society and high society.

In case you haven’t noticed (possibly distracted by the tactility of our very first velvet-coated, double-spot UV cover), we’re celebrating our 16th anniversary. It is a coming of age; the next big birthday after crossing into our teenage years, before hitting adulthood. It is the year teenagers in our local schools start considering their future — who they are, what they aspire to be and how do they get wherever “there” is. They’re usually not alone in their decisions.

Neither are we. We have stakeholders in the larger Prestige community who lend a guiding hand. But that’s not nearly the same as immersing in the environment around us. That’s why we went out to speak to 100 newsmakers — to learn about their own journeys and interests. Because we too are that 16-year-old standing at the crossroads. And everything they shared with us, we share with you.

For every inspirational tale and nugget of wisdom reported in these pages, we also have the lighthearted that is simply to make you smile. Because one lesson we’ve also learned is to not take ourselves too seriously. There’s too much fun to be had. After all, this magazine was conceived to celebrate the very best in life.

In case we’re all still keeping count — this is our 193rd issue. It’s just seven more to till we hit the big 200 and break out the party hats again. With gratitude,
