WHICH TRIBUTE IS MOST #LIT?

-

VERSACE

“I finally have the courage to go to the archives and give my tribute to Gianni,” Donatella Versace confided. To mark the 20th anniversary of her brother’s passing, she put on a show that celebrated his life and legacy. But she didn’t just pull things out from the archive. Save for the original black-and-white fringed skirt from the Native American AW 1992 collection (Donatella’s rendition could not be produced in time) every piece was a modern reinterpretation with relaxed tailoring. Starring iconic prints Gianni created from 1991 to 1995, the line-up included throwback logo tees in pastels circa 1980s (it also appeared in menswear), and emblematic gold chain mail in the supermodel-studded finale.

SAINT LAURENT

“I want to tell the story of Saint Laurent, of Paris — nothing more deeply than that,” Anthony Vaccarello shared on the “night the Eiffel Tower came on for

Saint Laurent” as Suzy Menkes enthused about on Instagram. His homage was especially poignant in the wake of co-founder Pierre Bergé’s passing. Vaccarello’s third collection was a stellar ode that traversed the founder’s oeuvre, breathtaking especially against the twinkling Effiel Tower. His high-octane, super-chic translations updated familiar style codes, such as the black-andpink combo, and feathers Monsieur Saint Laurent often used. Vaccarello also had fun with balloon silhouettes —his parade of le pouf concoctions had some pumping up the volume to the extreme. No supermodel finale here but a glowing report card and tons of Instagram love should suffice.
