THE FUTURE IS CLEAR
The iconic Chanel J12 commemorates its 20th anniversary with the addition of 11 new references to its extensive repertoire. One of the most remarkable variants is the J12 X-ray, which takes transparency to the extreme. A huge departure from the iconic ceramic models in black or white, the audacious 38mm timekeeper is almost entirely made of sapphire crystal. Displayed in its sapphire case are the plate, as well as timer and cog bridges made of sapphire crystal that let light in to reveal an intricate latticework of cogs. Baguette-cut diamond hour markers seem to be suspended on a dial that is also cast in sapphire crystal. What is most impressive about the limited-edition watch (only 12 pieces are available) is a bracelet that is cut from clear raw sapphires, a marvellous technical feat that is also an industry first. Boasting a 55-hour power reserve, the new Calibre 3.1 is a skeletonised manual-winding movement designed and assembled by the Chanel manufacture in Switzerland. Adding the finishing touches are an 18k white gold bezel set with 46 baguette-cut diamonds weighing 5.46 carats, along with a diamond cabochon-topped crown.
