Journey to the West is considered one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature, but for all its serious literary credentials, its star is the defiantly silly and mischievous Sun Wukong, or Monkey King. Legend has it that the monkey was tasked to watch over the Garden of Celestial Peaches, but could not fight the temptation to eat the sacred fruit. He attained immortality after eating one, but also incurred the wrath of the gods for stealing the peaches.

Inspired by this well-loved character, Jaquet Droz has released four Petite Heure Minute timepieces (from S$49,000).

The Petite Heure Minute Monkey models featuring miniature painting on the dial come in 35mm red gold with diamonds and 39mm red gold, while the 41mm Petite Heure Minute Relief Monkey models – each featuring a hand-engraved gold monkey – come in red gold or diamond-set white gold, both with black onyx subdials.
