In 1878, Charles Lewis Tiffany purchased a fancy yellow diamond of 287.42 carats unearthed in the Kimberley mines of South Africa. Named the Tiffany Diamond, it has been shown in various exhibitions and museums, set in a necklace for Audrey Hepburn and now dazzles admirers from a display in Tiffany’s iconic Fifth Avenue store in New York City.
