Paysagedanslalune
Arare work from Chinese-French artist Zao Wouki’s early Oracle Bone series, Paysage dans la lune is an ambiguous, abstract exploration of the moon’s eternal light. Signed in Chinese and Pinyin, the oilon-canvas work measures 117cm by 88.5cm. Zao’s appreciation of nature is expressed through minimalist aesthetics and subtle nods towards primitive forms of Chinese calligraphy. The painting’s unusual palate points towards a departure from concrete figuratives, where half-familiar symbols swiftly dissolve into a monochromatic background. www.sothebys.com
