EXPLORE THE CREATIVE POSSIBILITIES OF THE MARBLE-BENDING TECHNOLOGY AT MM GALLERI, A SHOWROOM THAT DEMONSTRATES THE BRAND’S GROUNDBREAKING TECHNIQUES
Stepping into the MM Galleri showroom is like entering an ethereal, subterranean world—clad in marble, its undulating walls and ceilings make the showroom appear like an otherworldly realm. Launched in January, the 4,305sqft space is a joint venture between Singapore firm Sharikat Stone and the Indonesian furniture manufacturer MM Galleri, and it’s an exemplary example of their innovative marble-bending technology.
Malleable Marble
Having defined luxury since the age of the Roman Empire, marble is naturally hefty and unyielding. It’s difficult to imagine it as a pliable material, until MM Galleri demolished such limitations with its inventive techniques—the firm is the first in the world to perfect the intricate process of slicing marble into bendable layers as slim as 1mm. These malleable layers of marble can be applied onto any surface in any shape, including walls, furniture, bath tubs and lamps.
Flexible Feat
By wrapping a layer of marble around a metal, wood, or epoxyresin frame, MM Galleri’s marble-bending technology offers not just a lightweight and luxurious finish, it’s also an eco-conscious solution. It maximises the quantities of marble that can be cut and used from any given slab, thus saving massive amounts of natural stone from being quarried and wasted. The sky’s the limit when it comes to the use of this technology, which can be used on semi-precious stones such as onyx and granite; the grand gallery also features a collection of furniture pieces made with the same stone-bending technique. Highlights include a glamorous sideboard with a spiral design as well as sculptural benches and side tables that bring to mind the gravity-defying work of architect Zaha Hadid. Chiselled to perfection, these marble-clad furniture are indeed works of art that can complement the opulent mood of your abode.
