HAMMER TIME
This year, Panerai launches its most complicated timepiece yet, the 1940 Minute Repeater Carillon Tourbillon GMT PAM600. A mouthful by name, the timepiece is equally complex: the minute repeater function has been calibrated to emulate the melody of a bell, only possible by adding an additional hammer and gong to the conventional twohammer and two-gong construction. Unlike the more conventional minute repeater, this one chimes the tens instead of the quarters. Moreover, by simply pushing the crown, you can choose whether the timepiece chimes the home time or local time (denoted by an indicator at 3 o’clock). Panerai has also added a tourbillon to the mix and has skeletonised the entire movement.
