Founders and designers: Michael Koh (above) and Achillea Teng If you thought that the only compelling reason to visit United Square was for kids, then you’ve not yet discovered a hidden gem: Caratell. The jeweller set up shop in 2004 and has built up a reputation for conjuring conceptual designs that delineate its passion for coloured stones. Caratell sources for rare, beautiful, multi-hued stones directly from the mines, and founder Michael is also trained in lapidary. They cut some of the more unusual shapes in-house, allowing the team greater freedom in the design process. This melange of stones and colours is well-demonstrated in its latest collection, Impressionist, inspired by the great works of Monet and Van Gogh.
